For the first time, Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort, Miri has successfully organized the “3 Days 2 Nights Tropical Adventure Camp” on 14-16 March 2009, targeted especially for students aged 10 to 16 years old. This adventurous, fun and yet meaningful event was conducted in collaboration with Mr Shaharudin Mohd Nor, a qualified outdoor education trainer from Rangers Camp Sdn. Bhd., Kuala Lumpur. The objective of the camp is to encourage the participants to become healthier and tougher person through independent and team works.

Today Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort is well known around Miri and Bintulu community as the nearest destination to their town for a host of nature based and eco-tourism activities. Be it from challenging abseiling or cross jungle trekking to water rafting or swimming in the cool natural waterfall and camping in the midst of tropical rainforest, listening to the sounds of birds and insects.

The Adventure Camp was launched at the Lambir Hall, thereafter commenced with ice breaking activities from 10 am. Each participant was introduced and divided into teams. All participants were given a safety briefing and introduction of the activities. After a healthy lunch and a briefing session by the trainer, the participants then moved to the camp site and continued with exciting activities. They were required to finish a specific task according to the rules and regulations set by the organizing committee. It was rainy and humid on the first night, the participants found that it was more challenging than expected.

On the second day, all participants were moved to hostel and they required to learn how to set up their beds, prepared and cooked their own lunch; this is part of the process of being independent. More challenging activities and games on this day such as competition among teams to build a bridge in order to cross a mock acid river with limited resources, key punch game and compass orienteering. At night, the trainer introduced various indoor mindset games and each team required to carry out interesting performances.

On the final day, as early as 7 am, the competition among teams continued. After a hearty breakfast, all teams proceeded to obstacle course. It was remarkable after two days of working as a team, the participants showed their team spirit in the exercise of “12 feet wall”. Although exhausted due to the tremendous challenging physical activities, the participants were still in high spirit as they gathered during the certificate giving ceremony. All participants had a wonderful memorable experience and we would like to thank all the participants to make this event successful.
